Why support the Culture Kids programme?

If we are serious about changing the world for the better, it cannot be done only by treating symptoms: conflict, destitution and migration - we have to get at the root of the problem. Humanitarian aid is an important part of our common responsibility and it saves thousands of lives every day, but without development and growth, poorer nations will remain dependent on charity.

The rich north can never build walls tall enough to keep out the world’s poor, but we can lessen and eventually dispense with the need for walls and boundaries all together.

Sustainable, locally anchored development is the way to prosperity and peace. The key, to that development, is people, their knowledge and confidence: It can be done, it has been done and it must be done if we are to hand over a better world to our children and grandchildren.

This is where we come in.

In the Culture Kids programme we are laying the groundwork for meaningful, bottom-up development in West Africa. Through coaching, cultural education and training in creative learning, we provide the tools necessary for the Gambian children and youths to realise their dreams and lead the way.
